Think On Your Feet®

Clarity • Brevity • Impact®

Some 20 years ago, most employers required candidates to demonstrate “excellent verbal and written communication skills.” Which they still do.

But today employers globally now highlight the skill of “thinking on your feet” as a core competency.

Employers want team members who can respond well under pressure. This also means being organised in their thinking, as well as responding fast.

This is reinforced by our research that shows roughly 90% of all verbal communication in business is impromptu (not formal presentation). This is increasingly forcing executives to learn how to professionally handle Q&A, how to explain complex ideas clearly, how to be persuasive verbally, and how to get to the point.

It’s interesting that clients are still placing a premium on strong verbal skills in tougher economic times. As one client told us: “There’s no better time to be clear in your core messages.”

So keep practicing your Think on Your Feet® skills! They are more important than ever!
